Acts of Love

Mark Jason Williams and I have a weird connection. Our paths always seem to cross in strange ways. So it was natural for the two of us to combine our efforts and produce an evening of one act plays for the Planet Connections Theatre Festivity. When we discussed which plays we would present and what it should be called, we came up with Acts of Love because all of our characters seem to share the same struggles in searching for human connections and we felt the writing came from the heart. The day before Mark and I went to the theatre for a tour, my father got a not so great diagnosis on his heart. I told Mark and after the tour was over he wisely said, "go enjoy your Dad." I did. Then we found out he needed his second open heart surgery sooner rather than later.

Acts of Love has taken on new meaning since that time. My focus since then has been on being with my father and family. Being at the hospital to make sure he was getting the care that he deserved, catching up on work when I could and spending precious time with him.

The first act of love: Mark Williams and Anthony Valbiro (the director of my one act plays) told me to focus on my father, they would take care of my production. And they have. They have never complained, they have only been concerned. Same for the cast.

The second act of love: The nursing/np/pa/pt staff at Westchester Medical Center. David, Elaine, Matt, Colleen, Nadia, RoseMarie, Victor, Rich, Siobahn (probably spelling that wrong!), Sylvia (who remembered my father from his first surgery)...the list goes on and on to even include the valet parking staff. They took care of my father and offered hugs (and chocolate) when my family needed it.

The third act of love: Family, friends, colleagues, texts, prayers, emails, facebook posts.

The fourth act of love: The most important. My father is ok. My father is well. My father's heart is strong. Why? Because of countless acts of love.

My hope now is to get to see the production of Acts of Love that the cast and crew have worked tirelessly on and I hope you will too. It supports the Westchester ARC
http://westchesterarc.org/  (Mark and I have a weird connection there too...she knows who she is!) Regardless of all this, I want to thank everyone for their acts of love big and small because it made a difference in my life.

Kindness matters.
